For many, a pet is part of the family. When a pet suffers from unexpected illness or injury, it can be upsetting as well as costly. Veterinarian costs are rising just like healthcare costs, and it could be heartbreaking to end up in a situation where you can’t afford vet costs in an emergency. More and more people are turning to pet insurance to avoid this situation and protect the well-being of the family pet.
Square State Insurance is pleased to offer pet insurance coverage through Safeco Insurance. Before you purchase coverage, you need to know exactly what you’re getting out of pet insurance. Let’s break down how the coverage works, what you need to know to get started, and what limitations there are on this type of coverage.
Benefits Of Pet Insurance
Pet insurance covers a variety of conditions and emergency situations for dogs and cats. It protects against unforeseen accidents and illnesses. For an example, imagine this scenario. You wake up in the middle of the night and something is wrong with the family dog. If you don’t act right now, it may be too late come morning. Frantically you try to locate an open emergency clinic and get the dog comfortably in the car without alarming your children. Throughout the drive you may be wondering if you can afford the visit to the emergency vet, but you really have no choice. You and your family are attached to your dog, and you’ll do whatever you can to save it.
Pet insurance will alleviate the stress of a situation like this. You know your pet will be covered, which allows you to focus on the comfort and care of the pet as you head to the clinic. Truly if you consider your dog or cat as part of the family, then you need to invest in pet insurance.
A list of procedures that are covered includes:
- Veterinarian exams and diagnostics
- Accidents and emergency visits
- Hereditary conditions
- Behavioral issues
- Dental Diseases
In addition, preventive coverage can be added for a low monthly fee. This extra service applies to:
- Annual exams and checkups
- Heartworm / flea treatments
- Teeth cleanings
For those interested primarily in emergency coverage, Safeco offers an option that only covers emergency visits to the veterinarian.
You can pick from the above three options to customize a plan to meet you and your pet’s needs. Square State Insurance will work with you to design a policy to fit your individual budget.
Safeco pet insurance offers many highlights that make it your best option for pet coverage. First and foremost, you can pick any vet, specialist and emergency clinic you prefer. Clinics in both the US and Canada are covered. This coverage works everywhere, and there is no worry of visiting an office out of network. Deductibles can be adjusted from $100, $200 or $500 depending on your needs. Coverage options can be customized to fit your budget. There are a variety of annual limit options that range from $2500 per year to unlimited. This plan applies to multiple dogs or cats if you own more than one, and you’ll be eligible for a 10% discount if you enroll multiple pets.
There is good news for existing Safeco Insurance customers as well. In most states, you’ll be eligible for a 10% discount if you trust Safeco for other insurance needs. If you have any questions on discounts including multi-pet and Safeco customer discounts, contact Square State Insurance. You are free to cancel the plan at any time, and there is a 30-day money back guarantee as long as no claims are covered under the policy (not available in all states). Emergency coverage (and optional preventative care) starts immediately on the plan’s effective date, however there is a 14 day waiting period on knee and ligament injuries.
You have the option of 70%, 80% or 90% reimbursement with a Safeco plan. Claims can be easily placed in the Safeco online system, and you can track the status of a claim online. On average, it takes 14 to 16 days to resolve a claim, but some claims may take longer. Safeco offers the option of direct deposit for reimbursements or you can have it mailed as a check.
There are some conditions and situations that are not covered under Safeco Pet Insurance. Before purchasing coverage, make sure these limitations won’t effect how you plan to use the policy. Pre-existing conditions are not covered under Safeco plans. However, injuries or illnesses that pets recover from and require no additional treatment for 180 days are covered in the future.
Cosmetic and elective procedures are not included in Safeco pet coverage. This includes ear cropping, tail docking and claw removal. Finally, any costs associated with pregnancy or breeding are not eligible for coverage under Safeco pet policies.
